Best bridge camera?

Colleague at work wants to buy a bridge camera for his partner who wants to step up from a point and shoot. It's a market I know nothing about and wondered if anyone had any recommendations? Budget probably up to about £200/£250.

Re: Best bridge camera?

There are so many good bridge cameras. Ultimately it comes down to how the camera feels and how the settings and menus are laid out and accessed.

Re: Best bridge camera?

Indeed, but as it's a Christmas present I think he wants to keep the element of surprise. I shall, of course, recommend a Nikon

Re: Best bridge camera?

Have to say that I think that Fuji and Panasonic would be the ones I'd be looking at first, then maybe comparing others with the better one of those two.

Re: Best bridge camera?

As Graham says - I've had a few Fuji cameras. Only thing is.....don't be thinking about a superzoom, you know, the ones that promise 30x mag, they're only useful with a tripod etc. Although not technically a bridge I would recommend a Fujifilm X-A1 with 16-50mm Lens Best Price £339.00 - Compare Prices Here - UK stock Fujifilm Photography Price Comparison if you're friend can find a bit more mulla. Gives room for manoevre later on.

Re: Best bridge camera?

Agree with Stephen re the superzoom. There is a Panasonic that will go to 560mm! I'd be looking for a focal length starting at around 18mm to give 35mm equivalent of 24mm. Many don't go as wide as this. Top end is less important as long as there is a reasonable length.

FWIW I've just bought my Son a Panasonic GF6. Not a bridge camera, but it gets blinding press and punches well above its weight. £299 in John Lewis. The LCD is not fully articulated, but it can pivot out from the top or bottom. Lens is equivalent to 24-86mm IIRC. There is a 45-150 (70-300) available for £200.

DMC-GF6KEB Lumix G Compact System Cameras (DSLM) - Panasonic

In this review it came joint second with Olympus OM-D E-M10, Fuji X-T1 and Sony Alpha a37 amongst others

Re: Best bridge camera?

Having used a Fuji HS10 for a few weeks, I'd probably recommend the Fujifilm FinePix HS50EXR - zoom goes up from 30x to 42x and, yes, you need good light to use it at that end but I achieved some great results with the HS10. Definitely a good all-rounder - and at a sub-£300 price tag!

Nikon Coolpix B500: £219 -
The Nikon B500 is available for under £220. For your money you get a 40x optical zoom, but it’s aimed more squarely at beginners as there’s only automatic shooting options and no raw format.

Besides that you can go through this list https://www.lifewire.com/best-cameras-under-250-3897830 , i guess it will help you as well!
