Best non DSLR Camera

I am looking for some recommendations as to which would be the best Non DSLR camera to purchase to replace my D300, it wont be for underwater as I am giving up the diving as well as the DSLR.

Any recommendations would be much appreciated, I am certainly looking for full manual control, ideally Raw, pretty much as many feature as a DSLR as possible.

Before I purchased the D300 & I had the D70s then before that a Coolpix 5000, pretty happy with all of then in there time.

Thanks

Paul

Probably a bridge, My wife has a compact Canon IXUS 870 if we just want a point & shoot.

I've heard of the Cannon G10 but haven't had much chance to look into it, I was thinking that was a bridge.

As soon as I saw the title of this I came here to mention the Canon G10 (pattern emerging here!) which is an outstandingly good camera with an excellent lens. You'll be hard pushed to beat it on image quality. Bear in mind that even though it is a compact, it has a lens equal to Canon's L-series which is their professional range.

You could list loads of cameras all of which are very good, there are plenty out thee these days. For me the G10 does stand out as a cut above most.

Cheers,
Rob

Maybe I'm biased, but I still recommend the Panasonic FZ28 to people. Nice quality photos with an 18x zoom range capability (up to 32.1x zoom optical at decreased megapixels). Plenty of manual options to play with. Of course it depends on what your camera is going to be used for. Mine is used for everything under the son so I need the versatility of the zoom. I also have a Raynox 250 for it for macros.

Just recommended one to a friend and he was very very happy with it. I wish they made a replacement for the amazing FZ30/50 which I loved as it had 2 mechanical ring controls for focusing and zooming and 2 input dials just like an SLR but was limited to 35mm wide. What you will miss from an SLR with any bridge is the ability to adequately track a moving subject, no shallow DOF and of course the low light ability but with the weight and bulk savings your shoulders will thank you.

Re: Best non DSLR Camera

I have the Panasonic FZ28 too and it's a great camera. The Canon G10 would come up near the top of my list of " next" compacts to buy.As I already have the A650-same lens and sensor as the G9, I can't justify buying it.
