Re: Canon 40D review posted

Great review. Looks like a real winner, all the new features filled the few small holes in the 30D. At that price it looks a steal.

I don't want one.

I probably may not want one.

It is possible that I may not want one.

One would be rather nice.

I may be losing this battle.

Re: Canon 40D review posted

In the interests of accuracy, I feel I should add this comment....

My new 40D developed a fault fairly quickly (might even have been there at the start but I didn't notice as I was looking through Live View a lot) which was that the information display inside the viewfinder was not displaying all the LCD cells properly which made it nigh on impossible to read some of the information. It didn't affect the pictures taken in any way and I was still able to read all the information in two other places: the top screen and the rear screen.

As I had bought it from Onestop Digital in Hong Kong, I had to return it to Hong Kong which was a bit of a bind and not a cheap one as I had to pay for the return: £25!

However, on the service side of things I really can't fault them as I posted it on Friday and I got an email yesterday to say a brand new one had been despatched. I have checked the tracking number on fedEx and it is due to be delievered tomorrow morning (Thursday). That means a return to Hong Kong and replacement received, hopefully, in just 6 days. Frankly I have waited considerably longer for items returned in the UK before now!

I will let you know when the replacement arrives and will check for any faults. I can't get unlucky twice.... can I?

Cheers,
Rob

That's a bit of a bummer, Rob, but at least they've put it right fairly quickly. Good luck with number 2.

Re: Canon 40D review posted

Just to now add, my replacement 40D arrived extremely quickly. I posted it back to Hong Kong on Friday and a replacement camera arrived on Thursday. 6 days to send it and get a replacement from almost the otehr side of the world is excellent service so I think Onestop Digital should be commended for that.

The camera has been given a very thorough check throughout and this one is perfect, no faults at all. Guess who is now a very happy bunny!

Cheers,
Rob

We no longer like Rob Barron. Saw one at a football game the other day, the first thing I noticed (from a fair distance), was the massive LCD. Grrrrr

Re: Canon 40D review posted

Very good service, Rob. Can you tell us what warranty it has - Canon always used to be regional, and that would make me wary of buying from HK or the US.

Re: Canon 40D review posted

Sily, yup, that is a drawback as the warranty is HK so you have to send back to them to get it sorted. Having said that, Onestop Digital do have a very good reputation for helpful customer service and if a camera does need service or repair, they get it done very quickly.

But it is certainly something to bear in mind and if you don't want to risk having to send your camera back to HK, maybe it is best to stick to local or at least UK sellers.

7Dayshop are now doing the 40D for an excellent price of £769 including a free Extreme III 2Gb card.

Cheers,
Rob
