Rumours are rife around the release of a Canon 5D MKII, under the guise of Canon 7D. Following spec is being banded around :-

• Full frame 12M pixel CMOS sensor
• Dust & water proof magnesium alloy body
• 14-bit DIGIC III processor
• 5 frames per second
• Auto dust reduction
• 35 area light metering system
• 15 point cross focusing AF system.
• ISO 50-3200, extendable to 6400 or 12800
• 16:9 shooting at 8M pixels
• Viewfinder: 96% vision field, 0.71x
• Liveiew via 3.0 inch, 0.92 million pixel LCD (640*480 VGA)
• HDMI connector
• EF-S lenses not supported

Now the most interesting figure is estimated rrp of £850 / £$1,700 Personally I can't see this being right, as it massively undercuts current 5D price

So what do others think ... is this going to happen , or is it all hype ??

Anything's possible, but they'd make a pretty enormous loss if that price is right.

5 fps + full frame + weather sealing? Seems to be getting into 1D territory.

Would be lovely though and you can be damn sure I'd be getting one

Even I would be tempted to switch brands at that price

....and if they throw in a Digic 4 processor I'll have one. That, in my opinion, is what the hold up is which will make the price at least the sane as a 5D.

I'd say not at that price; if anything comes out to replace the 5D, it'll be priced pretty much as the 5D was at launch - occupying the price bracket between the 40D and the 1D Mk III.

I also seriously doubt the weather-proofing of the body since, as already pointed out, that would encroach on what has always been the exclusive domain of the 1 series bodies.

Broadly agree with that spec but 15Mp, no 'full' weather sealing and a price around £1300ish.

Of course the new Nikons have thrown a big spanner in Canon's works so the announcements that are very likely to occur around the CES show will be interesting.

12MP ain't enough for full frame. The resolution is less than the 40D for telephoto shots, allowing for cropping to give the same field of view.

I can't see them selling a 5D replacement for less than about £1500 or they'll kill the 1D.

Original 1Ds was about that MP. I'd rather have big pixels than lots of pixels.

Read a review abit ago around about same price as 5d.
