Compact help please

I am trying to find a replacment compact digital camera for my Mum...
She currently has a fairly old Kodak Easyshare CX'something-or-other' (6330 perhaps).

I think the main features of the new camera would need to be:
  • min 5 megapixel
  • min 5 x optical zoom (?)
  • largeish LCD (2.5")
  • must have viewfinder
  • preferably with movie mode
  • not overly complex to use
  • size - current camera (if 6330) is 102.5 x 65 x 38 mm so probably no bigger

I'm trundling round various review sites but wondered if anyone here might be using something similar or is aware of one that would fit the bill?

Any suggestions and advise greatly appreciated

Re: Compact help please

Apart from only 3x zoom, I would have said the Fujifilm Finepix F40 . I had the earlier F10 model & was impressed by ease of use, small size, large LCD & Photo quality.

Product Detail
The high resolution 8.3 Megapixel Super CCD gives you the freedom to crop and enlarge a face or a part of the scene while the quality remains impressive.

The advanced face detection mode can detect up to 10 faces in the shot and automatically optimizes the focus and exposure to take the best possible portrait shot.

A super fast ISO 2000 allows the camera perform better in low light conditions. A Picture stabilization mode can prevent blur from camera shake while the Natural Light/With Flash mode can take one shot with flash and one without.

Features

* 8.3 megapixels
* 3x Optical zoom
* 6.3x Digital zoom
* 2.5" LCD screen with anti-reflective coating
* 25MB internal memory
* Advanced Face Detection
* Picture Stabilization mode
* ISO2000 high sensitivity
* xD and SD memory card compatible
* Pictbridge
* 640x480 pixel 30 frames/sec. movies with sound

Re: Compact help please

Yeah - good camera, but no viewfinder.

Ali - check out some of the Canon range, I know some of them have viewfinders, and maybe a zoom close to what you want, but can't remember what models. Perhaps the 6 series or the Ixus range.

Re: Compact help please

Have a look at Ricoh's range. Good prices and I suspect will fit the bill.

Re: Compact help please

Thank you for all the suggestions so far!
Will check them out, especially the Fuji.

With the 8.3 megapixel, the 3x optical zoom shouldn't be a huge problem. I think her current Kodak as 2 megapixels and a 3x optical zoom...

There are quite a few in the Canon powershot range that fit the bill, but I'm not sure whether she'd like the hand grip (or whatever it's called) - so will have a look at the Ixus too.

I've not seen any Ricoh's so will have a look for those as well.

Thank you
