Reading through the full review of the Nikon D80, I thought others would be find the comparison shots between the Canon 400D vs Nikon D80 vs Canon 350D vs Nikon D70 vs Sony A100all , of interest. Review test shots here

Seeing the shots taken in RAW there really is nothing between the Nikon D80 & Canon 400D or the Sony A100 . Even the Canon 350D does well in the later tests

It did very well indeed didn't it?, in fact apart from the obvious jump in resolution due to the extra megapixels of the others, I didn't really see anything between them.

I guess it now comes down to the different lens range's of each manufacturer if you intend to get into DSLR these days

There was a difference though between the Nikon D70 & Nikon D80 though ....but they did say it woudl be impossible to tell the difference unless you blew the shot up past 11 x 8 . ..phew , saved me a few quid then

Thanks guys for this discussion and the other on the 400d and the excellent link to the photos - some detail with colour and greyscale card included. Interesting for me as I almost upgraded to a 30D whilst in the states - hit NY on Saturday to find shop kosher! Now with the 400D having the extra spot metering at less thaan my 350D cost i am very tempted to get this as a second body . . or do i wait for the 40D which surely is coming?

The problem with waiting is that there will always be something else newer and slightly better around the corner. Camera bodies depreciate at an alarming rate and unless your current camera is holding you back or missing a certain feature that would be a huge and definite benefit I would invest in new glass

This is very high on my list - a long lens with fixed aperture not one that goes down to F6.3 at the long end as the light never seems that good for the compensating exposure time. Now it is Sigma or really save for Canon! Recently added the 50mm 1.8 which gives me more scope in captuing grandchildren in natural light so now for a 2.8 that reaches 300mm.

I recently watched the Canon 300mm F4 L IS go on Ebay from the Canon store complete with 12 month guarantee for a measily £411...thats for a £1100 RRP lens

The bargains are there is you keep your eyes open and have the money at the right time...as usual it wasn't the right time for me

Was the character out of "Ever decreasing circles" based on you then Fangman Seriously though, the pressure being put on Councils to allow infill is frightening these days. Good luck
