Re: D300 or play it safe?
Hold on a minute!
Even though you've removed your camera gear info, I know you've had Nikons the last coupla cameras. Ok so you've sold/sat on/buried your D200, but what about your Nikon lenses You gonna buy a Canon 5D + one lens? Sorry, doesn't make much sense to me. Unless of course you also have Canon lenses already, but I wouldn't know that 'cos you've removed your camera gear info ![]() Sooooooooo ....................... I vote for the D300 And when you've finished with it after a month or so, providing of course it's in good nick, you can sell it off cheaply ... to me

Re: D300 or play it safe?
You could be right Woody ... but I can't see anyone asking for advice after the fact, so I don't think Soup has actually bought a new camera yet ... I think he's hiding his lenses to confuse us

O-perleasssse!
![]() Nobody with an ounce of self respect is going to want to be seen with a D70, that's just plain silly. ![]() Everyone knows it's the camera not the photographer.

Re: D300 or play it safe?
D300 all the way. I haven't heard of or experienced the issues you have stated and in my view it is a great camera and a huge step up from the D200.
I used it at a major indoor equine event (stallion show) on Easter Monday and was really pleased with the high ISO capabilities - the D200 just couldn't have coped with it. Example at ISO 1000 if I remember correctly, hardly any PP except for a very slight Levels tweak and sharpen for web use. The prints have come out very well including a couple of 30x20's:

Re: D300 or play it safe?
Very cool indeed.
It never rains as the saying goes. I have just been offered a used boxed 5D + 24-105 + bits-n-bobs for £1130 ![]() Anyhoo, if any other members are interested in a bargain I can post a contact mail address. |

Re: D300 or play it safe?
TBH I'd go the Canon route ... if I didn't have all these Nikon lenses, and I think I've reached the point of no return where that's concerned
![]() I only say that 'cos 99% of pro's I've come across (in books, web galleries etc.) use Canon. Of course for lesser aspirations, D300 is the way to go
