D300 or play it safe?

Hello all.

Once again I am about to pull the trigger on buying a new camera.
I am leaning towards the D300 but, there are grumblings about false low batt warnings.
Does anyone have a D300 that is showing this fault?

Alternatively, do I play safe and buy a 5D + 24-105?

What to do? What to do?

Going of the amount of time you keep your cameras would it not be cheaper for you to hire, that way you could also swap and change as you see fit?

How I have agonised over that old chestnut!

The D200 is down to about £630 in some stores so I could get some very sexy glass with the change.

Perhaps you could run a poll for me, something on the lines of "If you were Soupdragon which camera would you keep the longest?"

Seriously though, it's a fair chunk of wedge to throw down and I could do without buying a Lemon!

Don't get me wrong, I still think the D300 looks and handles better than virtually any of the Canon range (easy on the flaming! It's just my preference.) but, it's still a very new camera and I just don't feel confident in making the decision at the moment.

If I bought the 5D I would expect it to work flawlessly for the time I own it (time for the jokes) but by todays standards it looks tired.

Come on it is only money after all. What else would you do with it ? Buy food and pay the morgage ?? What are these compared to a new camera.

Any particular reason you want full-frame, Soupy? I'm not knocking it but you need expensive lenses to do it justice, and the results from APS-C are darn good.

Especially the 40D.

I want the 12mp, it's the fact that the D300 is so new that's causing bowel irregularity.

You probably hadn't noticed but most of my keepers are 100% crops.
