D80 issues

Hi, i am thinking of buying a Nikon D80 and yes...i know i do too many threads...but...
Does anyone have an opinion on the comparisons of final image quality when taking pictures as jpeg and not raw between the canon 400d and the nikon d80?
As the 400d usually comes out on top in image conparisons as the shots are a bit sharper than the D80's when using jpeg whereas the raw shots are almost identical.
Do you know if this is very noticable at all?

And also in one review it said that the canon had slightly faster continuos shot mode even though both were supposed to have 3fps, is their much noticable difference to worry about with this?

Those two things and the exposure issue are the only slight hiccups which are making me wary about buying the camera right now...because the functions and the ergonomics of the D80 come out tops over the 400d, if it werent for these few issues i would probably order it tommorow!

Re: D80 issues

You need to take into account the lenses that where used in the comparisons too, unless the same lens was used on both models (and it would have to be a third party manufactured lens as Canon and Nikon lenses are not interchangeable) then that could be a big factor.

One other point...if you are going the DSLR route (and from my reading of your threads it looks like you have made your mind up) then learning and experimenting with RAW files is part of the fun. If both cameras are capable of producing similar results when working from a RAW file...then it shouldn't concern you. Also although I am a Canon user myself, I would guess that the Nikon offers the ability to increase the amount of in camera sharpening applied to jpgs (as the Canon does)...someone else here with a Nikon will be able to confirm this for you.

You'll probably have your hands full learning how to get the best from either model before you need to worry about the processing and in all honesty, both cameras are superb

Re: D80 issues

I can confirm that the JPEG sharpening can be adjusted on D80 to be equivalent to 400D .....the comparisons have been "out of the box" default settings. As Steve has stated though you really need to shoot RAW for best results...... I have only took 1 JPEG with my D200 .....all the rest have been RAW.

Canon 400D or Nikon D80, will both produce stunning shots in the hands of the right photographer. Go down to Jessops & play with both of them & decide which you like best

Re: D80 issues

i agree with the last two posts, but im an ameture compared to the two guys who have advised you before me, especialy the quote "Canon 400D or Nikon D80, will both produce stunning shots in the hands of the right photographer. Go down to Jessops & play with both of them & decide which you like best"

i chose the 400d because it fitted my small hands better than the nikon...cus im a tall midget

like its been stated images are great on both cameras and its gonna be how it feels in your hands thats gonna be the final answer to your question!.
