Infrared IR Photography on the cheap - How does £70 / $140 sound for an IR Camera ?

After viewing some IR shots taken by Tony Parsons, & hearing how he took them with a Nikon Coolpix 950 with IR filter fitted, I was very impressed with the results. The shots on his web don't really do the shots fulljustice, as I saw the full size images being shown on a projector at about 8 foot across & they looked stunning Although only 2.1mp it can produce images of 1600 pixel across no problems, so perfect if sharing shots on the web.

Although still needing to use a tripod, the advantage with this camera over DSLR's, is the live feed on the LCD on the back , that allows you to see the shot you are about to take. Due to the darkness of an IR filter, you cannot view the image through the normal viewfinder of a DSLR, meaning you have to compose the shot before putting the filter on .

Best thing is you can get these cameras now for around £70 / $140 (less if lucky)

Here's one here with the benefit of wide angle lens also :- NIKON COOLPIX 950 DIGITAL CAMERA PLUS ACCESORIES - eBay, Digital Cameras, Photography (end time 22-Sep-07 12:07:50 BST)

& one just starting in the States :- Nikon Coolpix 950 2.1 Megapixel - (eBay item 330166988444 end time Sep-24-07 20:03:36 PDT)

Are you absolutely sure you wouldn't like to buy my Canon 10D?

Seems a good idea. I think that Parsons bloke has flavours of Ansel Adams about him, anyone agree?

Difficult to say. I know Tony Parsons quite well but I have never met Ansel Adams.

Seriously, after a while most photographers develop a style, I think Tony has only recently developed a style; he has not been into SLR photography that long.

I'm probably wrong, but I had just looked at some of Adams' photography, and it just reminded me of it a little. I'm sure better educated photographic historians will disagree

IR can help produce some dark features such as the sky, that other famous photographers have produced through other means
