Re: Memory Cards

I can only give you my findings with my D70 6mp. It will serve as a guide until someone with a 10mp turns up! 1gig on RAW gives me about 170 images.

Re: Memory Cards

Irrespective of which camera - if you are referring to 10mb raws you can fit 200 on a 2gb card, thats just arithmetic.

I believe that it's just coincidence that Nikon's raw compressed 10mp files are about 10mb (actually on the card that I just looked at they range from 8.3 to 10.5mb . . . averaging 8.8mb) so I agree that you can fit about 200 on a 2 gb card.

Re: Memory Cards

Isn't the reason they vary in size because the RAW files include a jpeg image, and how big that is depends on how much it can be compressed, which depends on what the picture itself looks like (lots of big areas of solid colour = more compression) They do that in just RAW as wel as RAW+jpeg modes. I believe the embedded jpeg is actually whats displayed on the LCD.

But 200 on a 2Gb card is a good ballpark figure.
