Nikon D3X
After Nikon inadvertently mentioned D3X in a recent upgrade of firmware for the Nikon D3, rumour is rife that Nikon are planning to launch the Nikon D3X as a new proffesional camera
Currently Nikon refuse to deny or confirm the D3X Nikon withdrew the firmware update v1.10, stating it was due to customer feedback ..... nothing to do with mention of D3X then ![]() |

Re: Nikon D3X
To be fair, the firmware was withdrawn because of banding and overlapping and weird stuff caused on the 14th frame of a high speed burst.....

Re: Nikon D3X
The D3X has been in development for a while and was mentioned as far back as October of last year by key Nikon UK staff; they were well aware of the demand for a high MP count body by wedding and commercial photographers, not to mention that they weren't going to concede that segment of the dSLR market solely to Canon with the 1Ds Mk III.
We were told to expect a body with between 18 ~ 24MP sensor size and based off D3 tech. The high ISO performance wasn't going to be the same... other than that, they said we "wouldn't be disappointed" ![]() |

Re: Nikon D3X
Yep it seems that the D3x will have a much higher res (around 24MP) which means a trade-off with noise. I do think it's unfair of Nikon to release the different versions of the D3 separately. I mean if they released them all one-time, then people could choose which model suits their needs, e.g. photojournalists would go for the D3, while wedding 'togs might opt for the D3x. As it is, with the release of only the D3 there is a sense of uncertainty of what is still to be offered in the way of features in the next release (D3x). It's a lot of money to spend on one model, only to find out a few months down the line that a sister-model is available which is better suited to your type of photography. So I repeat, why don't they just release them as a group, and make it easy on the consumer to choose the right one!

Re: Nikon D3X
yeah it is unfair, the D3 would suit me, but if i didnt know about the D3X and spent £3000 on D3, thats pretty bad

Re: Nikon D3X
Charlotte - the revenues from the sale of D3 bodies are ploughed into the R&D to make new cameras such as the D3X.
Remember - the D3 is the first Nikon camera to sport a full-frame sensor; they had to ensure that the sensor technology was working optimally before trying to cram more pixels into the same imaging area. Also... Nikon needed to "stop the rot" and bring out a body that addressed the needs of the majority of the professional market sooner rather than later. The D3X will be a niche camera in the same way that the 1Ds Mk III is; very expensive and tailored towards those users who will be best placed to benefit from it's use and thus willing to pay the premium for one. |

Re: Nikon D3X
As far as most peoples needs go, 12mp is more than enough.
As was said, wedding/commercial and heavy croppers are the only people who really need 20+ mp. |

What has been interesting is the obvious non arrival of the Eos 5D replacement. Call me a cynic but I suspect the appearance of the D3 and D300 caused a bit of a panic in Canon Towers ![]() (And I think that's a good thing for all future camera development.) |

Re: Nikon D3X
I was looking for the thread I started sometime ago about this D3X but I could not find it
anyway, it might be 24.4MP.heres what could be a prototype this was spotted here in San Diego. Question is, Is the D3x going to be a REAL full frame?, the D3 is 36 x 23.9 mm CMOS sensor and technically thats not a real full frame. |
