That is rather a sweeping question - different people will give you differing points of view. I would suggest you start off by having a look in our Equipment Reviews section, you can at least compare the specifications and read other owners reviews.

If you are on a budget I would suggest the 400D.
Having looked at the specifications, the 400D appears to be more versatile. |

From the limited information supplied I would buy a 400D but that may well not be the best solution for your needs. If we knew what your needs were....???

I was also interested in the 400D until the Nikon D40x came out. It says that the D40X is more portable/lighter than the 400D. That would be an advantage for me since I have small hands or is it? For now, I'm still torn between these 2 cameras.
