Nikon D700 vs Canon 5D MKII

With speculation of the Nikon D700, does this mean Nikon are trying to get ahead of any Canon 5D MKII launch ? D700 vs 5D , now that would be interesting.

Wonder what prices the 2 would be pitched at ?

Thanks to Vinny for heads up on D700 speculation :- Nikon D700 coming

Speculated Canon 5D MKII spec :-

- 16.7 Megapixel FF sensor
- Single Digic III Processor
- ISO 100-3200 (Low: 50 + High 6400)
- 6-8 fps - depending on grip
- 3" High Resolution OLED LCD
- will accept EF Lenses, not EF-S
- 11 point AF
- 35 Zone Metering
- Viewfinder: 96 percent coverage .72 magnification
- Pop up flash
- New Lithium Ion Battery
- Weather Sealing slightly better than 40D

Re: Nikon D700 vs Canon 5D MKII

lol, not much chance.

Although I could see Nikon producing a stunning body, with their track record on D300 & D3, if the D700 does become a reality it will be aimed at semi pro's. Now although pro's with the D3 can justify £1K glass , I'm not sure so many semi pro's can afford the Nikon (non DX) glass at these prises....... me included.

On that front I can always see Canon having an advantage in the semi pro market for anyone wanting to use Full frame. Their equivalent glass is approx 60% the price of the Nikon's & as we all know, one's glass is going to end up the largest chunk of money.

Nikon really do need to get non DX equivalents to the Canon 24-105 F4 L, 17-40 F4 L at a competitive price point.

Great news, hopefully it'll spark off a full frame price war!

Re: Nikon D700 vs Canon 5D MKII

I wonder what canon has in store to beat out the 51 AF points and speed of the d300. Clearly there's not much farther they can go aside from a 16 mpx full frame camera for under 1000 ...now THAT would be impressive. But what else can they really do to make their cameras better than the d700 as it stands now?

D700, D300, 5D, 5D MkII ? It's simply a ratings war - they all have more features and higher spec than 99% of photographers can cope with. 51 AF points will not make you a better photographer.

No, but I have been able to pull of more shots in certain situations / make my life a lot easier with 51 points rather than 5 on the D50. You can't just bash the things they put into the new cameras......

That's true, and the answer probably is never! I mean, surely they will constantly be inventing things that resolve as accurately as the human eye and beyond until they all explode......or something

Re: Nikon D700 vs Canon 5D MKII

Canon Press Release - July 2018

Canon is delighted to announce the 260 Megapixel EOS 1DMkXXV featuring an AF point for each pixel! In Ultra-AF mode the 1DMkXXV will take 260 million photos simultaneously - each one focused correctly for an individual pixel - and will save these to the internal 36TB micro-SD card. The latest Canon DPP will then combine these into a single image with every part in perfect focus.

(You heard it here first.)
