Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
Hi
I am currently considering buying a DSLR, I have read various reviews and am struggling to make a choice between the Nikon D80 & Canon 400d. I now there are differences between them, but so is the price! I currently have an aging Minolta Dimage 5 which has served me well, but I miss the versatility of my manual Nikon FE. I am about to head off to North America & had considered buying there but not sure about warranty problems. Alternative could be to purchase from Dixons within the airport. Help and advise greatly appreciated. Barry |

Re: Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
Both excellent cameras which will serve you well. Two considerations to make
1 Which one will sit better in your hands, where are the controls and what are the ergonomics like. Best thing is to go to your local Jessops and try them. 2 Secondly you need to think about the lens system you will be buying into. You will probably spend more on lenses and accessories than the camera so do think about this. Personally, I wouldn't buy in the US or at the airport. What if things go wrong, you need to return the camera etc, etc. I always buy my cameras at a shop which I can drive to then I can turn up on the doorstep and wring their necks if the camera develops a fault. HTH. |

Re: Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
There is very little difference in final image quality between the two so it's not possible to compare them on that one.
The long and the short of it is, as has already been said, it will boil down to what you want to do with the camera and what your future aspirations are. I went Nikon as I think their macro range is miles better than Canon for instance. It is also undeniable that Nikon are a percentage more expensive than most others. |

You might also want to take the newly announced 10Mp Nikon D40x into account aswell.

Re: Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
I was recently in your position and in the end chose to go for the Nikon D80 over the canon equivalent. Although i did not actually hold the canon one i read tons of reviews on the internet and the nikon seemed to come out on top.
Now that i have it i would definetely recommend it to you as it reall is an excellent camera! |

Hi
I to was recently in your position . I went for the Nikon D80 over the Canon .I did go to my local Jessops to see what they were both like in reality, and found that the D80 fitted my hands better than the canon. I am very happy with it and would definetely recommend it kevin |

Re: Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
I also own a D80 and it fits very good especially if you buy the Nikon MB-D80 Grip it not only fits better but it holds 2 EN-EL3e Lithium-Ion rechageable batteries - effectively doubling your total shooting time or can hold a AA Battery Holder (included) so you can use AA batteries as a power backup. The Nikon MB D80 Grip provides an AF-on button, vertical firing release with lock and front and rear command dials.

Re: Nikon D80 or Canon 400d!!
Thanks for all the advice, I went to Jessops and held the two. The Nikon certainly felt more comfortable, with less chance of trapping fingers!
Now just need to save a few more penny's. |
