An Observation: Nikon vs Canon issue.

This is a general thread regarding the ongoing Nikon vs Canon debate.

As a brand new Nikon D80 owner, i went out of my way to buy Nikon. To me Nikon is the mutts whatsnames of photography. I have little interest in Canons nor do i have any experience with them.

In the end, isnt it the final photo that counts. Put a D300 on the hands of some noob and chances are the pics will be rubbish, you have to learn to use the equipment properly plus to learn a good eye. If its all down to the equipment then why doesn't one company or another get the lions share of the better photos. Show me a really cool photo i couldn't tell you what camera it was taken on nor would i care.

My choice of camera is mine, yes it has no in built anti shake (apart from vr lenses) and yes there is no dust removal. (But i see dust removal as just delaying the inevitable anyway.)

in the end the camera suits my needs perfectly, i'm happy with my choice and over time i will learn to use it properly and improve on my photography. Your choice3w of camera is down to what a person perceives and feels comfortable with.

The end product the photo is ultimately what counts.

while true, many sad cases will expound in manic detail, from on top of a hill, near a burning bush, that the make has an impact on the end product and that their willy is MUCH bigger coz they use ACME equipment only.

and lo!

sorry to be harsh, but the whole argument is almost as irrelevant as the threads it generates.

/me wanders off to work out why he bothered to post.

Re: An Observation: Nikon vs Canon issue.

I totally agree with you. I recently bought a Canon 40d because I liked it and it did what I wanted. If / when I replace it my next camera will probably be a Canon if only because of the other lenses I will have by then.

I try to keep away from the "must have the newest / latest / greatest camera" road. My camera takes great pictures now and will do in the future. The bad ones are due to my lack of skill.

Remember, a camera is like a puppy, it's only for Christmas.
When you get bored of it, you can throw it away and get another.

Or at least that's what manufacturers would like us to do (obviously not with puppies)

No animals were knowingly harmed in the making of this response.

Re: An Observation: Nikon vs Canon issue.

I started out years ago with Canon (manual focus), now I shoot Nikon despite for years the Canons probably having an edge if I were honest. I did this because I had lot's of lenses and the diference between various models is hardly ever worth changing all them and learning a new system. I think the playing field is even more level now since both makes can legitimately claim to be the king of the hill depending on what your priorities are.
Go with what you like and you'll probably take better pictures than you will with a "better camera" that you don't. Once you have bought into a system changing everything is a big undertaking and unlikely to ever be justified by the next biggest bestest camera body.

All of this of course will never change the fact that anyone using a camera with a white lens is a smelly cheese

I dont want to be confrontational but thats a (how to put it in a polite manner) unfair comment.

It seems that i tried to generate debate over a valid subject only to be dismissed out of hand.

LOL soup
Rich, I think it is essentially down to preference and convenience; not many people change system / brand once they've started properly.
Both big brands (N+C) can do whatever the other one can do, if differing slightly, and the one that is behind at any one time will always be working to produce a better item, that will eventually render them in front, and so it goes on.
Debates or even posts though, as OP rightly said, are often fruitless, because there isn't a right answer, and there are always brand loyalists...

Exactly my point, perhaps i wasnt very good at expressing it. You will always have those who will wave the flag for one side or the other. You will always have loyalists so all they do is preach to the converted.

I underestimated the reaction i recieved which frankly im dissapointed with, last time i'll do something like this when im trodden on for bringing it up. You'd thought i'd murdered a baby.

He's got a point, in a round-about sort of way.

Your opening gambit is essentially a Canon vs Nikon thread, then you go on to say "There is a Canon vs Nikon debate?" and yet this thread is a classic example of how to start a Canon vs Nikon debate!

So you answered your own question by starting the thread, if you see what I mean?

I dunno if this is your first tog forum or not but believe me when i tell you multi-make forums are often plagued by these threads. With Pixalo, although these threads do occasionally pop up, it doesn't suffer from the same issues. I'd quite like to see it stay that way.

Case in point, in another place, there was some guy showing off some astro pics he'd taken. The whole thread was completely destroyed by numpties arguing about which make was better for astro 'togging. And that isn't the exception, it's the bloody rule.

I understand you're very pleased with your purchase and feel it's well justified. So, no doubt, does every other bugger here. It proves nothing really, 'cept that you're a happy bunny.

Re: An Observation: Nikon vs Canon issue.

Now when they bring out the Canon Imac or the Nikon PC that WILL start an argument.

Camera's are like cars, software, computers and a whole other gambit of things.

I'm a Canon man only because I have an old EOS1000fn that after nearly 20 years still works. I had no experiance of other makes so it was an easy choice.

I did much research on what model I wanted, what it's pro's and con's where and opted for a Canon 350D, however I have friends with Nikons, Fuji's and many other makes and to be honest most of their pictures make mine look realy bad.

Chin up fella the net is full of contoversy, and not to beat you up but have a look around at the number of arguments about PC's and Mac's ( PC are defo the best by the way )

ps bought a 40D today oh boy what the heck are all these buttons and dials for
