Post Coolpix 5700....

Hi

Not for me but for a female companion.

She's got my old Nikon 5700 and we are trying to work out what is a progression from this.

She isn't that confident with the mechanics and I'm try to take her through the shutter speed/ ap/ ISO balancing act.

D40? D60? D40X? (not she isn't getting me my old D200).

What does the D7000 do? The numbering does seem confusing and I have to say I've lost track.

TIA

David

Re: Post Coolpix 5700....

Unless your friend really wants to get into photography I think that sticking to a bridge camera would be the best bet. All of the main players make decent ones, but I'd look at the Panasonic and Fuji first.

The D40/60 are now quite old and have the additional complication of collecting lenses. The D7000 (and D7100) are the top of the range crop factor cameras that replaced the D300s. However, for me were not an upgrade option from the D300.

I though there wasn't a replacement for the D300s?

The D300 / 300s were at their time the top spec crop factor cameras made by Nikon. The D7000 was, when it came out, the top spec crop factor camera in the Nikon line up and at the same time the D300 was phased out.

For me that makes the D7000 the replacement for the D300s

I'd stay with the 300.

Bridge or dslr. I'll see what she thinks.

I had a 5700 it was agreat camera I wished I still had it! no I do not want to buy yours....its still a good bridge camera and perfectly capable of taking sharp well exposed images, so why upgrade?

For one thing the view finder is a complete horror.

The lady has returned the camera to me now so I still have it and have no intention of letting it go. We always said it batted over it's price (at the time) on the results ......but I'm not swapping over my D300s for it.
