recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
First Post!
![]() Need something for interior stills and such - so a flash and good-enough stills are the only reall criteria. Oh, and budget - needs to be under a ton ![]() I'd even consider 2nd hand! (if there are some very reliable ones..)

Re: recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
Hi atrull & welcome to Pixalo
![]() I'll try & throw in a few ideas, but I'm sure others will add some more options. A great s/h compact is the fuji S7000 which I've seen a couple go for just over £100 s/h Example (although normally nearer £140) This is a cracking camera for the money & near SLR picture quality. Another cracking camera is the Minolta Z2, which s/h is just below £100. I used to have the Z1 & loved the 10x optical zoom. Decent flash & PQ would be ideal for you . I'll leave the Canon boys to advise on the Canon compacts. |

Don't worry, most of us started with compacts. Had a Fuji F10, Olympus C3000 Zoom & Minolta Z1 before jumping to DSLR's. Got some cracking shots with those cameras ![]() Ref the deal above, great price, just check camera is in UK though, as seller is from States ....don't want you getting hit for Import duty. Good thing about the 10x optical zoom is you don't lose picture quality when zooming to max, unlike those that have digital zooms to same 10x. Let us know how you get on |

Re: recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
it's in the UK - just curious about how good the SD included is - otherwise I think it would be a damned good camera to start with
![]() simple too because I'm an ignoramus when it comes to photography - the last thing I recall is 3x3 and that is it

Not sure how much to get from B&H to the UK. But B&h has some pretty nice used digital cameras. |

Re: recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
A compact re-kindled my interest in photography. It is fair to say I don't use it as much now, but I do still use it when I just don't want to carry the dSLR for whatever reason. You can't deny the sheer convenience of a compact, and it makes the old adage of 'never be without a camera' a reality.
It must be over four years old now, 3.1 megapixels, and I have to say it produces some very reasonable results, some of which are posted in the galleries. |

Re: recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
I keep thinking it is time I added a small cheap compact camera just to capture those spontainious moments and not have to worry about it getting stolen or damaged by the elements...maybe a cheap ixus type thing would cover my needs?

Re: recommended 4MP+ compacts ?
The Ixus do get good press. I was going to upgrade my compact, but I could not find one that had a viewfinder, a reasonably big LCD, and dial controls rather than menu options, so I've stuck with the Nikon Coolpix.
The fact that I was considering upgrading the compact at all tells me they have their place in the scheme of things. |

I've recently found Digital Camera Reviews and News: Digital Photography Review: Forums, Glossary, FAQ <- quite a good review/comparison site for these things
