With the newly announced Canon 400D going head to head with the Nikon D80, anyone want to speculate which will come out on top in reviews ?

Re: Speculation - Canon 400D vs Nikon D80

Being that they are very closely matched, I can't see many upgrading from the 350D to the 400D but 300D to 400D will be worth the upgrade, also the the D50 to D80 will also be worth the upgrade.

Although the gap between 400D and 30D is just that little bit closer now so will there be an upgrade to the 30D at some point?

Who will come out on top mmmmm it's going to be a close call, me I'm going to sit on the fence as I'm a Canon bod

Just my two pennies worth.....

Re: Speculation - Canon 400D vs Nikon D80

Would I be right in main difference between D30 & 400D is the magnesium body of the D30, but also lesser Megapixels ?

Be interesting to see if those people hell bent on number of pixels, choose the 400D over the D30 ?

From reading the specs it seems there's another difference maybe worth mentioning, a dust remover system for the sensor has been introduced on the 400D.

...The 30D still has the edge with 5fps vrs. 3fps on the 400D.

Having used the 350D and the 30D I preffer the size of the 30D as it sits better in your hand as there's a bit more body to get hold of, always found the 350D to be a little thin on the gripable area. I'd trade some megapixels for comfort and grip.

Re: Speculation - Canon 400D vs Nikon D80

I use a 20D and have to admit that I couldn't get used to not having the jog wheel and mini joystick controls. once you are used to these they make shooting so much easier.

The 300D/350D don't have these and I am assuming that 400D is the same (although I have not seen photo of the back of it yet)

Now give me a 30D with the anti dust system and weather proofing and I am there!!

.oO(Yes it will, as it'll be put head to head with the D200...unless Canon has a surprise for us in the next few days)

...It'd be interesting to see if I'm right... or just talking a load of old cobblers!

Re: Speculation - Canon 400D vs Nikon D80

I have just had a look at the video, thanks

Typical manufacture spiel with the cheesy voice over but it does show how it works and demonstrates the advantages clearly. I like the failsafe in the new software that maps out the stubborn dust bunnies automatically too.

It will be a while before I consider changing my cameras, I don't tend to upgrade for upgrading sake but do like to keep up with developments so that when the time comes I am reasonably informed
