That's neat!

No good for a 30 sec exposure tho.

I was doing that 30 years ago, but instead of the washer I tied a loop on the end of the string to put my foot through.

I can not touch a piece of string like that without it tangling , imagine how clean the washer is after using it in the FIELD!!!!

I thought that this sounded a good and cheap option as you do not even have to pay for the washer with this design. :thumb:

Then I thought about a Canon 1D with an L series lens on it attached by a bit of string to my foot . Potentially quite expensive . Not that I have the 1D or the lens but you get the idea.

Then, even worse, there is the loss of street cred. if anyone sees you doing this. :D

I tied me tripod to the bottom of the string thinking that it's nice 'n heavy but I noticed a few issues...

I couldn't wind it all up and fit it in my pocket.
It cost 260 not < $1

Perhaps my design was slightly flawed?

LOL, I have used this technique when out and about without a tripod for years. I remember telling someone in a photography chatroom about this method and they said it was stupid and wouldn't work. I said, 'Well it works for me!' and just ignored their scoffing.

I must confess, I personally prefer the stability of my Sherpa Pro CF tripod but hey, I nicked the string from a washing line, found an old bit of metal and had an old broken QR plate from an old tripod so got the screw off that. Bingo, total price 0.00 :)

Now, anyone know how to make a Canon 1d Mk111 for the same price? <g>
