Why, if your going wide angle then go wide angle.
I would look for something like the 10-20mm range or a 18mm prime.
There are lenses that range from 18-105mm.
Ask yourself why you want 24mm and then you should come up with your response.

Re: 24mm or 24-50mm?

If you need ultra low light or the ultra shallow DOF, go with the prime. If 2.8 is fast enough, and you prefer a lens that can zoom, then do the zoom instead.

Most situations are just personal preference. I can't imagine shooting certain events with anything but my 70-200 or 28-75, and there's other stuff I couldn't imagine shooting without a 50mm or 85mm f/1.8.

Re: 24mm or 24-50mm?

Thanks.. i'm leaning towards the 24mm prime.. but am wondering if I should just save my pennies till I can get a 10-20mm or something close..

Re: 24mm or 24-50mm?

I prefer zoom lenses but 24 mm with a 1.6 crop factor (I assume that is correct for the Nikon ) = 38 mm for a full frame camera which is not that wide at all. I totally agree with Hoffy. If you want wide angle that 24 mm lens is not really going to do it for you.
