Which 2x converter

Hi. I have a Canon 400D EOS with a 70-300mm telephoto lense and as I don't have a few thousand pounds hanging around the house I have been looking in to a 2x converter. The two I have been looking at are the Kenko Teleplus DGX 2x MC7 Teleconverter and the Kenko Teleplus DG 2x MC7. Can anyone enlighten me as to the difference between the DG and DGX?

Re: Which 2x converter

I don't think either will work with your lens as you'll lose two stops and thus autofocus with a 2x converter. You may be better looking at the 1.4x converter.

Re: Which 2x converter

Won't autofocus with a 1.4x either if I remember correctly. However there is a dodge that I use on my 100-400L with my Kenko 1.4x to get the camera to autofocus.

Re: Which 2x converter

Should work with 1.4x TC as it's a 7-contact lens. The L-series have 10 contacts and need to be f/4 or faster with 1.4x or f/2.8 with 2x TC. It's a stop slower with non-L lenses.

Re: Which 2x converter

Any thoughts on the Kenko PRO 300 AF 2x Teleconverter for Canon EOS?

Re: Which 2x converter

Kenko Pro 300 is a good TC, but again it won't give AF on your 70-300 lens.

Very good converter, I use the 1.4x Pro DG version with my L lenses and have no issues or complaints at all.

Likewise!
(had the Canon 1.4x but it didn't work with non-Canon lenses and was no better quality-wise so it got the old heave-ho)

Re: Which 2x converter

Not used them on Canon but I do have the Nikon (II) and Kenko 1.4 and 2.0 Pro DG convertors. Not much to choose between them at 1.4 but at 2.0x the Nikon is a good bit better (But both are really a last resort and the Kenko especially so)
