2x TC with Sigma 70-200/f2.8 vs Sigma 50-500
Recently have seen some stunning wildlife shots taken with the Sigma 50-500mm f/4.0-6.3 EX DG APO HSM, at the long end of lens. Now my 200mm is way off this focal length, so the question is how do people feel my Sigma 70-200/f2.8 with a 2x Teleconvertor will compare Picture Quality wise to the Bigma ?
Appreciate I will be at f/5.6 suddenly, but that is no worse than Bigma at 400mm. Also understand Optical quality will drop slightly due to TC, but just hoping this would be offset by Optical Quality of 50-500 being less than 70-200, based on extreme zoom range Obviously the TC route would save lots of dosh....plus bag space ![]() |

Re: 2x TC with Sigma 70-200/f2.8 vs Sigma 50-500
Dave,
I've got the Sigma 70-200mm and the the Sigma x2 TC, if you would like to see some of my photo's I took while at the WTCC rounds at Brands Hatch then I'm more than happy to post some tonight for you to look at. For me I'm quite happy with the results I'm getting from this combination and it also saves me from having to carry the Sigma 80-400mm lens as thats one big lump of a lens Bristol camera's are selling their's for £139 plus p&pSigma Lens 18-50mm 28-135mm 55-200mm 28-200mm 70-300mm and more Hope this helps |

Very kind of you DaveyUK...I'll PM my email address.
Found this link for compatability of lenses with Sigma TC :- Sigma - Lenses - Teleconverters After I've seen your shots I'll look to buy from Onestop at £120 all in |

Re: 2x TC with Sigma 70-200/f2.8 vs Sigma 50-500
Thanks for sending the Pics DaveyUK. Bit hard to tell how good the convertor is , due to poor light conditions on day of the shoot. Have you ever tried a test shot of lens at say 200mm f/5.6 & then identical one with 2xTC & lens at 100mm at f/2.8, so same eventual focal length & equivalent f/stop ? Would be very interested to see the difference .
