300mm lense choice!

Hi
Has anyone got any advice on whether I should choose (bearing in mind I only have £200 budget left after upgrading to a Canon 40D) a Canon 75-300, Tamron 70-300 or a Sigma 70-300. I need to make a quick decision so any advice would be brilliant.
Thanks
Andy

Sorry, not used any Cannon lenses, but they usually say that if you can afford the Cannon lens, buy it ,if not ,buy the one you can afford.
It,s the glass at the end of the day that the image comes from.

So spend all you can afford on the lens.

Re: 300mm lense choice!

Consider a little more and have a look at a Tamron 18 - 250 DI II

Cracking lens for the money.

I have one that I'm pretty darn happy with

Mind you just spent a silly ammount on another lens but hey you only live once

Canon 70-300 IS.

OK, it's outside your budget, but what's money for anyway? Once you've used an IS telephoto lens you'll wondered how you managed without, and this one gives good image quality even at full aperture.

The only drawbacks are: no focus scale, and it isn't full-time manual focus - meaning that you can't tweak the focus ring manually while in AF mode.

Apart from that, I'll give it five stars.

Re: 300mm lense choice!

Have the Sigma 70-300mm f4-5.6 APO DG Macro which is a superb lens for the price (Think i paid around £150) Having a macro facility is a neat addition as well, highly recommended.

Here's a couple of shots taken with said lens

Re: 300mm lense choice!

Thanks everyone, I've just gone for the Tamron based on a few reviews. It was a close one between that and the Sigma. I guess neither are going to be brilliant for that price, especially at the 300 end but. Saw it for £199 today in jessops but just bought it online for £120!
