Re: 40D Battery grip
I have the BG-E3 for my 400D and my camera hasn't been the same since I got it. I find it so much easier to handle the camera because of the extra weight and for portrait photo I find it invaluable.
I'm using mine with 6 rechargable 2300mAh AA batts. and even while using the onboard flash, after 4 outings the batteries are still "full". If I decide to upgrade to the 40D myself, the grip will be right along. |

Re: 40D Battery grip
The 40d is larger and about 250g heavier than the 400d so the extra grip the battery pack gives may not be so much of an advantage from the handling point of view.

Re: 40D Battery grip
Personally I think the Photox is false economy. For that price they can't be as well made plus....I regard the battery grip as part of my camera and , as such, think it is better complimented by a quality grip from Canon.
I know it's more money but, IMO, worth it in the long run. |

Re: 40D Battery grip
Didn't notice it wasn't the original from Canon. I have no experience with the Photox brand so I can't comment, but as far as the original from Canon:
More money, Yes. Worth the extra money: I definately think so. |

Re: 40D Battery grip
You could buy about 10 batteries for the cost of that grip m8.
I've got 3 copy batteries all with slightly more Mah output than the origional Canon one, had 4 extras for the 350D and all have given me no problems. Maybe you just don't need a grip for now

...the first thing I bought for my 40D when I upgraded was the BG-E2n grip and TBH it's a bit of a let down compared to the BG-E3 grip. It's alot thicker in the hand which makes it a bit uncomfortable to hold for me. And I think the build quality isn't as good as the BG-E3 either... it's sturdy enough I guess but it's made from a smooth type of plastic with only half of it covered in the grainy rubber finish that is on the camera, due to this it feels a bit strange in the hand. ...oh, and the grip hasn't replicated the new focus thumb button on the back of the 40D so you cant use it when holding the camera in the vertical position. ![]() Try before you buy is my advice!.
