Abundance of Minolta/Sony glass I've been seeing recently....

I am so tempted the past few weeks to buy an A68k Sony Alpha..

why?

bought recently on Craigslist
---------------------------------

Vivitar 19-35
Minolta 1 - 35-70
Vivitar 70-300

all 3.5-4 f stop lenses.

plus maxxum 400 film camera. $100

50 F1.4 Minolta lens. $50

70-210 F4. Minolta (the beer can lens). $99

at those prices.. I'm starting to buy glass for a camera I don't own yet.

the macro lens from tamron, conversely - that I'd want for it would cost 2.5 times what I have into the old glass.. Which is nuts - the Sony Alpha mount lenses have no VC, leaving it to the body. It ought to be cheaper..

Leave Nikon land? Probably not.. I might sell my D3200+24-85VR to help finance the purchase of the body..

I've been looking at Sony products for a long while (mirrorless). I really like the quality that a friend of mine gets out of his A58K... the AF on the 68K sounds completely great.

Re: Abundance of Minolta/Sony glass I've been seeing recently....

Ive been raiding craigslist for camera gear. I just got a Minolta X-700 with a MD F1.2 50mm.. and two other crappy lenses for $75... I have the X-700 pre-sold for $50 with the 500mm mirror lens.. (leaving a 70-300 manual focus lens that sells for 35ish)

the F1.2 50mm ebays for 400+. that's going to help fund my A68K purchase..

Re: Abundance of Minolta/Sony glass I've been seeing recently....

Hi Loyd,,, I have one of the Vivitar 19-35mm. It is fully manual and new in a box. It shoots great like my other old Vivitar 135mm manual. You might say 135mm, cheaper by the dozen, but the Vivitars are a lense you need to look for. A good one dosen't show up very often. Yashica is my favorite brand, I now leave a set of 28mm f2.8 manuals on my kit and can fire off stacks from 3 cameras all the same except the filters for IR, faster with these then my sell your house to own glass under and between 15 to 30 seconds. Thee older film lenses have plenty of life and less coatings that really don't make much difference with color fringe on detail. I love the fact that some of the compact zoom Yashica lenses were made to shoot in low light because of the smaller houses they say. I have found that they actualy pull light in, I know because I used one on my 830nm.body and the pictures are delightful, phun intended. I never bought a 35mm and now have two, a Yashica and a Braun compact, Shoots great color but has some issues in IR. I know this mostly covers my need to shoot IR but it also is something that in my circles it isn!t talked about very often. I likeit when you bright up your experiment story's. Good shooting as I am still shaking from a Red Tailed Hawk that flu around my car, big enough it could have picked up my car and dropped me in the river,,,,yes my camera was in the back,,,,,ouch.

Re: Abundance of Minolta/Sony glass I've been seeing recently....

I was at my grandkids birthday today bringing one camera body to take IR black and whites. All Yashica lenses, my beloved 28mm,, my 35mm,, and a 42-75zoom. They all worked as they should. Something happened, my daughter came home and we started to talk cameras. I ask her to focus on me and take a picture, she looked at the numbers on the side and the line of numbers under ft. After three years of learning about manual lenses I now know how to start out with your focus. Yes I am slow
