Advise needed Nikon 35mm or 50mm

I am trying to decide on which lens to get for my D90. Uses are mainly potrait, landscapes and general daily use. I have narrowed my choices to the two lens below, all comments are appreciated.

1) Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Wide Angle Auto Focus

2) Nikon 50mm f/1.8D AF Standard Auto Focus

Thanks for looking.

the 18-135 Nikon lens is very sharp and the price has dropped a lot. It may not be that fast but image quality is well worth the money

Re: Advise needed Nikon 35mm or 50mm

I think the choice will be maily decided by what you shoot most. The 50mm has the edge for portraits. For landscapes I think the fast aperture is less important as you can use slow shutter speeds with a tripod, and your exisitng lens will probably be OK.

I guess I'm saying nifty fifty.

Re: Advise needed Nikon 35mm or 50mm

I have the 35mm f1.8 AFS and the 50mm f1.4 AFS. The 35mm is perfect for indoor | garden shots of the kid(s) as it's fast and wider than the 50mm, whereas the 50mm is just great as a walkabout | portraits | indoor low light lens. The DOF that can be achieved with it is stunning.

As has been mentioned depends what your priority is, but take a look here for some shots I've taken with the 35mm and here for shots with the 50mm.

If I had to choose though, based on what shots I take most, it would be the 50mm.

Re: Advise needed Nikon 35mm or 50mm

I have both lenses and I LOVE both lenses, but I have to say for my personal shooting style I use the 50mm way more than the 35mm but yeah I LOVE both lenses!
