Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
Have always been a fan of wide angle photography , I'm intrigued how shots come out from a Canon 5D with the Canon 10-22mm lens. Anyone got that combination &able to comment on how they perform ?

Will it fit?
The 10-22 needs an EF-S mount.

well the 10-20 is an EF-S (same as DX for nikon) so you would have a lot of falloff, maybe it would turn into a fisheye?

If it fitted (which I don't think it will) you'd get severe vignetting because it doesn't cast a full-frame image circle. I have heard of people using the Sigma 10-20 (standard EF mount) on full-frame, which works if you crop.

Ah, sorry ...lack of Canon knowledge ..... I didn't state the Sigma as I thought it might not be up to scratch optics wise at the edges, vs Canon.

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
The Sigma 10-20 and Tamron 11-18 are very good *if* you get a good copy. Sigma have had a few problems with QC it seems - Tamron seem more consistent.
Also there's the Sigma 12-24 which is a full-frame lens but does have some drawbacks - you can't fit filters to the front. If you happen to be passing this way you're welcome to try the Sigma 12-24 which I bought for the 10D (not EF-S) and don't use any more since getting the 30D + Canon 10-22. |

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
I couldn't get an 18-55efs to physically engage on my 1D2n. I presume all EFs's are like this?
Doesn't really the answer the original question but if you have a look at my review of the Tokina 10-17 here, you can get an idea of vignetting and so on. |

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
It will not fit. The EFS series are specifically designed for bodies wth smaller sensors and consequentially (big word for a Sunday morning
) smaller mirrors. The back of the lens projects into the body beyond the mount and would interfere with the mirror. This lens would therefore only work with 20/30/40/300/350/400/D not 5D or 1series. That is what I have read anyway. Roger PS. I see that some of the Sigma lenses also say that they are designed for smaller sensors too. |

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
does sigma make canon lense mounts in ef form or ef-s?
i am fairly certain that the smaller sensor lenses have ef mounts, so could you mount a sigma 10-20 on a 5d. if you could i think it would have a very cool effect |

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
There are two factors here - the size of the image circle and the design of the mount.
Canon lenses designed for APS-C sensors (1.6x crop factor) use the EF-S mount which is compatible only with the cameras listed in moorlandroger's post above. The rear element of these lenses protrudes further into the mirror box than standard EF mount lenses, so even if you can physically fit the lens to other cameras the lens could foul the mirror when it flips up. Third party manufacturers also make lenses intended for APS-C sensors (Sigma DC, Tamron Di-II, etc) - i.e. they throw a reduced image circle which is quite a lot smaller than full-frame - but they use the standard EF mount and can theoretically be used with all EF mount cameras, including the 5D, 1D, etc. However, since the image created by the lens does not fill a 35mm frame, you would get vignetting with these lenses on any camera with a sensor larger than APS-C. Are you sure you don't want to buy my Sigma 12-24?

Re: Anyone shoot with a Canon 10-22mm Lens on Canon 5D ?
So whats the widest lens you can put on a 5D that a) doesn't need cropping & b) ain't a fish eye
??
