Bag help please

I have recently upgraded to a Canon 7D and stuck a battery grip on. This means that I now have a camera the size of a small breezeblock which will not fit in my old camera bag. I have a Tamrac for when I want to lug all my kit around but I'm looking for a bag which will just hold the above camera with a 17-70 lens on, maybe a flash but not vital and some spare batteries.

I have looked through loads of reviews but you would think no-one used battery grips, none of them seem to mention whether they will fit into the bag attached to the camera or not.

Please help if anyone has any ideas

There are some reviews of bags in our Reviews Section that might be useful.

Re: Bag help please

If you want a bag just for the camera I can recommend the Lowepro Toploader 70AW this holds my Nikon D200 and 18-200mm lens with the battery grip fitted, you might be able to fit your flash in the bottom of the bag. It does have 2 small pockets inside for memory cards-lens cloth, and 2 pockets on the outside not forgetting the waterproof cover.

Re: Bag help please

Camera bags are not designed for individual photographers, its crazy isnt it! each time you buy a new camera or lens your bag is just is not big enough, I dont carry much equipment around with me these days so a small one camera one lens bag does me, the last bag I bought was from Premier Inks, I took my camera and lens along there and tried a few bags untill I found one that suits, however back at home I unstiched the side pockets to make the bag slightly smaller to my own liking........

The photographer's search for the perfect bag is only matched, in intesity and obsession, by the alchemist's search for the philosopher's stone.

According to reports so far received, both are still looking...

@Des I like your idea but sadly I live in the back end of nowhere and we don't have any retail chains for 100 miles (not exaggerating)

And sejanus I think you're absolutely right

The Lowe Pro idea doesn't look bad and I found a Tamrac version of similar style. No rush though.

Have you thought of a vest ? I have a large tamrac for carting lots of stuff.

I now when carrying a little, use an "photo vest" - it's actually a Frontline (Think Army Surplus) "Cargo top" that I picked up for around 20. Lots of pockets, to hold the odd lens, flash and batteries & all important drink and snack etc.

Yeah I was looking more to have something to put the camera in when its not being used, first outing, got on a tube in a slightly dodgy part of London and the bloke opposite wouldn't take his eyes off it. Thought I was going to have to whack him round the head with my monopod

Would not have made a difference. Where there is no sense there is no feeling.

Re: Bag help please

Me and her are LowePro fans but it took us much searching to find the right ones.

St Austel is a long way from any camera shop. We sometimes forget what a long county Cornwall is. Cumbria is bigger but rounder.

A very, very long time ago, we looked into taking over a camera shop in Falmouth. Luckily, we realised that the vendor's claims didn't quite accord with the accounts, and beat a smart retreat. Not that I have anything against Cornwall. If you cut north from the Tamar and gave a hefty push, it would make a very nice Channel Island.

Re: Bag help please

Just an update in case its useful, In the end I got a Lowe Pro 200aw. This is not supposed to be big enough but it's perfect. 7D with BG and 17-70 slot right in and there is still room for 2 more lenses and my flash gun.

I'm beginning to think they try to sell you oversize bags so you will buy more gear to fill them.

Oh and as a bonus I got it from Ebay for 28 and it looks brand new.
