Bah indeed.
I wanted to see how my 17-40L looked on a full frame camera so having bought an EOS650 for £20 from eBay, off I set with two rolls of B & W film. I had a happy time snapping 70 frames in Bournemouth & Winchester. And yes, the 17-40 looks good on a full frame. Having picked up the developed film today, my local camera shop advised that I had “a sticky shutter which is why you’ll see that a third of the frame is undeveloped…” I did check the camera over when I received it but I must’ve missed the sticky blinds. Long exposures were unaffected but as 99% were taken at f8 or lower… Live & learn eh?! David This is Winchester Cathedral (apparently...): ![]()

Thats tough milou, from the bits of the pictures I can see it looks like both shots would have been excellent :icon_eek:
It may have been cheap of Ebay but unless it was described as faulty I would certainly be contacting the seller to get my money back. Maybe as a last resort you could take a double exposure, one with the camera the correct way and one upside down, then join the two for one complete picture. Honestly mate, I feel sorry for you.

It might be as simple as some grime in the blind runners. Since it's not going to be worth sending off for repair you've little to lose by having a gentle poke around and using some canned air.
Fingers crossed. |

Cheers
My local camera shop said that this was a common problem on that range of EOS cameras and I can either try and fix myself (!) or they can do it for about 25 quid. I only had the Kodak iso 400 film printed - 'tis a shame as I wanted to see how the Ilford FP4 iso 125 turned out as that had some wonderful light under Bournemouth pier - whether I captured or not, I'll never know! Still, I enoyed taking the shots and the anticpation of wondering how they would turn out. /muses on value and justification of a 5D... Last edited by milou; 23-09-2005 at 15:00. |

Dont think the 5d is weather proof either so would be a waste for me ! lol
Definitely got to be worth a little play around inside and see if you can free it up though ! The shots do look to have been excellent if they had been complete !

Heh
Aye, there's a couple of good points there! I think I might get the camera repaired for those wi-i-d-e shots and maybe change the 300d for a 20d. I was really nice looking through a larger and brighter viewfinder. Last edited by milou; 23-09-2005 at 19:59. |

i bought a 420EZ Speelite that goes with the 650, it only works in manual mode on the 300d but its something for me to practice with, and it was only £10!!

i had exactly the same problem with my eos 600, it was the rubbers that damp the shutter which began sticking to it causing the delay. apparently it happens after 10-15 years which is about right for these cameras. i got mine fixed for about £40 in labour (15p for the rubbers) and it was fine.
i lost 5 rolls of film from a holiday in thailand before i foiund it, so count yourself lucky. hope it helps |
