Basics of Lens...

Hi all,

I am new to the world of photography and as per suggestion over internet, I joined this community (PIXALO).Request you all to help me grow my skillset in photography.

Last week I bought a NIKON D60 with the KIT lens 18-55 AF-S-ED-VR Nikkor.

I read in the forum people talking about macro lens.Macro lens is basically used for closeup photography(say insects, flowers).

Is it essential that the macro lens be always a prime one or the variable focal length macro lens also available??Can't I use my 18-55 mm lens for taking photos of bees, insects and flowers??

Thanks all in advance.

Welcome to Pixalo bishnu.bhatta

Some zoom lenses have a macro function, but the best macro lenses are usually primes.

One way to get macro shots with your existing lens is to get a set of extension tubes. these fit in between your camera and lens to magnify your subjects. There are many examples of pictures taken with extension tubes on here, for example
