Batteries
I bought 1000mah Li-ion batteries for my 350d canon months back. I found them great but 2 of them die when using the battery grip(after 80 shots or so), but the others are alright. Only discovered they are non OEM batteries. What is the difference between OEM and non oem. Also can anyone suggest any sites online that sell high power battereis for a 350d.

Re: Batteries
Most clone batteries are OK and plenty of people use them without any problems. It sounds as if you may have a couple of duffers.
![]() Don't know about the 350D batteries I'm afraid, but the BP511 clones for the 20D/30D from 7dayshop are cheap and (so far!) reliable, so it's worth a look there. ![]() 7dayshop.com - Online shopping made easy ! |

Re: Batteries
OEM mean "Original Equipment Manufacturer"
non-oem generally means a retail box but in this case it probably means they are not made by Canon - or whomever makes the Canon batteries. Me? I wouldn't touch a non-oem battery with a bargepole. Especially in light of the recent battery recalls (laptops and mobiles). Ask yourself how likely it is Canon (or any other manufacturer for that matter) will replace your cam should a non-oem battery explode in it. Paranoia? Probably.

Re: Batteries
There are a couple of problems associated with Li-ion batteries:
short them out and they will release all their energy immediately, resulting in "my phone/laptop caught fire" stories. But this kind of thing tends to be preceded by damage to the battery. In theory, they should have a fail-safe to prevent this kind of thing (hence the recall of laptops over the years) but 3rd party batteries may not be as resilient as OEM ones to start with they're meant to have circuitry to prevent overcharge - if this is damaged results in "my charger caught fire" stories they have a limited life, whether used or not. In other words they start degrading the minute they leave the production line. This can lead to "my batteries only lasted 6 months" if the stock is old But they're perfect in all other respects! Virtually no dropoff in voltage either immediately after high short term demand (when pic taken) or over a period of time, until drained of charge. Good low temp performance. Can now be manufactured any shape (Li-ion polymer). No 'memory' effect so can be recharged at any time Oh, and I use 3rd party batteries - I'm just fairly careful about charging and looking after them

Re: Batteries
well i checked the batteries and i got one duddy. tested shots with the camera using each battery on its own. All other batteries got 950 - 1600 shots over a hrs use each. where s the dud one got 40 shots and packed in. the batteries are meant to have a anti surge protector in them it says. I usally only recharge when they a very very low and always use them in a battery grip, so if they did blow which i hope not it might help minimise damage but could thay short circit the electrics in the camera.
7 day shop seems very good with there pices. found these on there site 7dayshop.com - Online Store Thanks for the advice people. Always handy to know others opinions |
