Battery Grip

Hi guys,

I am thinking of getting myself a battery grip for my 350D, ive found this one on Ebay, i dont think this is a genuine Canon item, however has anyone purchased one, or has ever bought from this person.

Never used him before, but the price is almost half that of a genuine one.

This seller has quite a few listed, not sure what they will reach by the end of the auction though.

Looks like the canon item to me.

Why not ask the seller if it's genuine canon or for some images of the actual product?

hi mike
i just got one and they are magic, the one advertised is a 350d one, but doesn't say its a Canon make, and i was going to order one for myself from this german chap until i got my grip as a present.
If you decide not to go with him, i think Fotosense sell it for £94.

the description kinda implies it's not canon. maybe quality control rejects from the factory?

Description says they are from the same manufacturer, just don't have the Canon badge. Possibly they made too many? Anyway, he's sold a few and buyers all seem happy with them so I'd go for it £77 is a snap.

Hi mike I definately would go for a grip, not sure if you want to go the ebay route. I just did a quick search and found this at

http://www.abc-digital-cameras.co.uk...a2150588ea02b4

If you did spend over £100 delivery is free, think it might be around £4-5 ish if you bought this on its own.

Many thanks for the pointers guys, just one question on the link that Glen supplies it shows the batteries required are BP-511A Batteries, however the original link i put in shows the batteries required are NB-2LH. Is there a reason why they are different?

BP511s I believe are what the 20D uses, 350D is definately NB-2LH's.

It certainly looks like the original, but with that quote in speech marks, I can pretty much guarantee it won't be exactly the same as one you walk out of Jessops with, for one reason or another. Either it's a refurb, or a copy.
If it's a copy I would steer well clear anyway, you don't know how it's going to last with use, or whether the contacts will start coming away, switches start failing. For something as substantial as a grip, a 3rd party isn't worth it IMO.

However tempting the price is (and I say this even though I'm tighter than cramp ), I personally would buy elsewhere, for a guaranteed original. I bought the grip for my 350D at fotosense for 94.99.

The batteries : The 350D grip takes NB2LH, and the 10D/20D takes the BP-511.

That's kind of like saying you'd only ever buy a Canon lens isn't it? why would you assume that a grip maker would take less care over the product they make than someone like Sigma/Tokina/Tamron would over a lens?

Yeah, but Sigma and the others put their names on their products.

It's probably OK, but...

Maybe in a couple of years the chinese 'whoflungdung' factory will be world famous for battery grips

Sure, you take a risk but if the price differential makes it worth it...
