i am getting my 400d this week and want a macro lens but after buying the camera im on a tight budget and wondered what people would recommend

I've found the Sigma 105mm pretty good and it's not too expensive but the Tamron 90mm or Canon 100mm produce equally good results - the former's about the same price as the Sigma, the latter more expensive

What sort of macro do you anticipate taking?

im looking at just flowers,bugs etc and also i like the water droplets images i have seen would like to try that out

In which case I'd definitely recommend something around 100mm (or greater but more expensive!). There are 60mm lenses to be had but you do need to be just that little bit closer - I'm thinking of bugs rather than flowers or water drops!
