Was pleasantly surprised at the decent bokeh on the Nikon 70-300 VR lens this afternoon. Was playing with fill in flash & noticed the bokeh in the background of this shot. 100% crop of section just to show part of subject (daughter & hat) & then background some 15 feet behind. (no post processing of any kind)

Very nice Dave, i enjoy using my 70-210, wouldn't mind a go 70-300 from what I've seen.

Re: Bokeh on Nikon 70-300 VR lens
someone wanna explain to me what's nice about it? I'm really not getting it. Much rather have creamy goodness than these orrible, distracting and unsightly circles...
Do people actually prefer these wee circly things? |

Re: Bokeh on Nikon 70-300 VR lens
I think by definition
it is classed as bad bokeh... with the circle within a circle scenario, am sure I've read that somewhere, but as with all things photography its personal taste and it wouldn't do for us all to be the same

Re: Bokeh on Nikon 70-300 VR lens
ah right so r peeps saying it's good* coz it's circular rather than hexagonal?
*With the caveat that it's down to taste. |

Well I guess Dave would have needed a 300 f2.8 @ f2.8 to get that really diffuse (perfect) background. I'm sure he'd be delighted to try one out if you are offering? ![]() Circular highlights are much nicer than 5,6,7 or 8 sided highlights, again IMO. |
