Camera and Lens of to Hospital :(

Well, I've just sent my Canon 40D and my EF 70-200 f2.8L USM off to Lehmanns

Noticed at a race a couple of weeks ago that shots with this combination were not as sharp as usual, so put it down to user error

Had another go last week and there were virtually no shots from a small local race that I could use

So phoned Canon as it's under warranty and they put me in touch with Lehmanns, I spoke to a guy there who said it could also be the camera that is out, so tested it this weekend with various lenses at another race, (making sure to take plenty of shots with the old 20D in case) and there is definately problems, using it's maximum burst rate, I was lucky if 1 in 6 shots wwere in focus, down from 5 out of 6 when I bought it last year.
Luckily both are still in warranty, so have been posted off today, and as I've joined the Canon Professional Service, they should be back by the end of the week, so fingers crossed!
Don't know what has happened as they are always in a good padded bag and haven't been dropped.

How did you join CPS by the way, as I tried & met the 3 L lens limit, but they insisted on 2 x 1d bodies ?

Dave - I put in 4 (70-200, 100-400, 24-105 & 17-40) lenses and the 20D and 40D and my 550ex Flash and it was fine. I also phoned them up, and the lady that adds everyone on, sorted out my membership number on the phone before she went on holiday on Friday afernoon. So try again, when you go to the drop down list, the 40D is there, along with the 10D and 20D. Apparently if no parts not in stock have to be ordered, 3 day turnaround.
P-E, so do I! I was at the National Junior Road Race Championships yesterday for British Cycling and got some ok shots, but not as good as I've been getting

I had to get the photo's and report on site by that evening and even with Andy writing the report and me doing the photo's, by the time we'd got back from Oxford, had something to eat (we'd been out from 9:30 - 5:30) it was 11:30pm by the time we'd finished. I've decided not to do any more races where a report is needed, as with work and family, it's just too much, I'm very lucky Andy helps out.
I'll let you know what they say are the faults with the kit when I get it back.

I think they ask for two pro bodies - I got in with the 40D and 5D.

That's the one, 2 pro bodies, and the list starts at the 10D upwards, but not the 300, 400 or 450D's.
Go for it Dave, it may come in handy.

I added my film (do we remember film?

) 1NHS as well for good measure.

The kit drop down list is a bit rubbish as one of my lenses isn't on it and the whole lot has a hissy fit if you don't have your serial numbers...

Yep, that's where I registered & received a mail saying I had successfully registered & would be issued a CPS account. About a week later I got an email stating 2 x 40D bodies are not Pro bodies, which are 1D* & therefore no CPS account

Right, camera and lens have been returned. Apparently the lens is ok and the problem was with the body, which has been re-calibrated. I will take some test shots and see if it's better. Going to drag one of the whippets out into the park and make it run
