camera prob AGAIN!
just back from the remembrence parade....... and to my horror i have yet ANOTHER camera problem............... on the bright shots there is a semi circle or light going right thru the shots. on the shots that have been taken in shadows it seems to have disappeared........... have changed lenses to make sure it wasnt the lens and it is there on every lens........? ideas ? suggestions.......????? please bear in mind that i have only a month or so ago paid £120 for a new shutter........... i cant afford for it to be another expensive repair!
![]() will post an example of what i mean ![]()

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
At a guess without seeing examples I would have said its light flare but it is highly unlikely to occur in exactly the same place on all shots, especially if some of them where taken using different lenses at different focal lengths and settings...awaits examples.

examples on way in a few minutes after i get them out of lightroom......... its a completel curve definately not flares goes all the way from top to bottom, more noticeable in some than others. will post twoi shots taken this morning with the same lens from the same place..........tested it shooting out my back garden....... not there when its focussing on something dark but when its bright as in the sky its very very apparent and u cant fail to miss it!

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
Very bizarre! Not seen or heard of a problem like this. The only thing I can think of is some sort of mark on the sensor - from cleaning? Were these RAW or JPGs?

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
I'm wondering if the sensor is marked in some way too - maybe a wipe mark that sometimes catches the light?
I think you need to have a look to see if you can see anything on the sensor. perhaps when it was repaired they had to touch the sensor and have not cleaned it properly. |

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
steve i posted one with one without both taken round about the same time...... it is only apparent when its something bright........... i shot about 700 shots at TKDlast week and its not in any of the, but that was all inside....... i had it up at loch tay a feww weeks ago and shot in bright sunlight and it wasnt there. it has only become apparent halfway thru the ceremony this morning . I did a miroir lock up and blasted it with the rocket blower. no effect.... i also shot without a lens in mirror lock up......... you cant see it when im shooting indoors, its just a dark brown screen, but when i pointed the camera outside and shoot the same length of time its very apparent.........
the above shots are shot in RAW converted to jpg, a portrait format

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
Ah, OK. So it's not being introduced in the in-camera processing.
Seeing as you had a replacement shutter I'm wondering what the effect of a voltage carrying wire left behind the sensor would do in the way of distorting the image (which would have a faint electromagnetic field which could maybe interefere - hopefully someone who knows a little more about sensors might speculate further) |

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
Can you check if the mirror is functioning properly? It looks as if it could be a reflection off something within the mirror box, but I'm just guessing.

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
no filter, and have tried it with different lenses its still there............ mirror seems to be going up and down no probs........ cant believe this to be honest I need to find out if its something to do with the shutter replacement before shouting hte odds at the shop cos they can just turn round and say its nothing to do with it and bill me another expensive repair.

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
I reckon thats got to be some kind of reflection off something. I notice it shows horizontal in portrait and vertical in landscape so doesn't move around.
It's not a perfect circle more a parabola so it can't be lens mount or similar. It does suggest something like a wire hanging somewhere it should'nt be. If whatever is causing it where behind the sensor bending it you would get an out of focus area around the line and there isn't. Quote:
My next move would be to set the camera to sensor clean without a lens and have a realy good look round the shutter box and sensor. Does anything look out of place. Carefully shine a light into the shutther box and look for a curved reflection on the sensor. Don't leave the light on too long in case it does the sensor a micheif. If it's on all lenses it's definately down to the camera, and maybe a shoddy shutter box change.

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
Well in my opinion its the shutter take it back to the repairer and tell them the shutter is still not right leave the offending images on the card for them to see, but make sure you get a receipt for the camera, card, and lens, before you send it away!

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
But none in bright light. I would take it back and get them to check it over and explain the fault. If they believe it not to related to the shutter replacement work they did you'll need to do some more research before deciding your next move.

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
ok camera went back this morning............ just off phone to them..... there is a Hair on the sensor and he thinks it was light reflecting on that...... had to shell out for a sensor clean which i was going to do anyway as it was "minging" and yep thats a technical term......... not bright enough today to test it properly but time will tell! i will keep u all posted!

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
I dont honestly mind paying for a clean as the sensor was absolutely fill of dust bunnies even before it went for a shutter replacement. It was well over due!
but hey... I havent actually paid them yet

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
Any decent camera company would have cleaned the sensor after working on a mirror box just to make sure they had left nothing behind.
Ask them for the hair and get it checked to make sure it's not one of theirs LOL

Re: camera prob AGAIN!
well i paid for it..£33.65.... hadnt really thought about it that way Steve as i dont honestly know enough about what is going on inside the workings of a camera..........
Just back from picking it up and im a wee bit disappointed., the line "seems" to have been sorted but im still seeing dust bunnies when im looking thru viewfinder......... definately NOT as much as there were but i expected a completely clean sensor / mirror. was I expecting too much? doesnt matter now cos im not going back again as it takes a good 40 minutes each wayshop is in Edinburgh , so i didint have to send it away. Cameratiks Camera Repairs - Links Page Steve, no way no how am i ever going to clean my own sensor. im way too much of a chicken! lol anyway im working on alan to get me a 40D or 50D so they have a sensor cleaner built in lol |
