Does anyone here use a canon 1.4 extender, if so, is it any good with the Canon 70-200 F4 L lens. I know that I will lose the f4 but what is the image quility like.

Re: canon 1.4 extender

I've used one - on the 100-400mm IS L. Was very pleased with it and, although you lose AF, wasn't fussed seeing as I use MF anyway. Be worth checking the Canon site for that lens, especially if AF is important to you

Re: canon 1.4 extender

I've used one on a 70-200 2.8 and it works fine with no noticeable IQ loss imo.

Re: canon 1.4 extender

I have one which I use with my various L series lenses and notice no discernable loss of quality so I would recommend it highly. I also have a 2x TC and that one does have a marginal loss of quality, not enough to spoil a shot or anything but it is there.

Cheers,
Rob

Re: canon 1.4 extender

I don't know if this helps but I use the Tamron SP 1.4 teleconverter with my 70-200 f4L and there is barely a miniscule of image quality loss.
Here's an example:

Re: canon 1.4 extender

I've used it on the 70-200 2.8 version, I've used it for sports shots also, only tried it in good light and I've had some sharp results!

Re: canon 1.4 extender

Ditto the above. I use mine almost everyday with an EF600mm. I see no loss in quality, I often will put it on and off mid shoot and can never tell when editing the shots later. Not the same with the 2x where the loss of quality is quite noticeable, though I have not really tried comparing a with/without test and comparing the without shots cropped to give the same magnification as yet.
