Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

When I push the joystick in on my 5D2 the camera settings come up on the screen and I can use the joystick to move around and select an item to change.

On both my 40D and my newly aquired 1D mk 3 if I push the joystick in nowt happens.

Is it supposed to do the same as my 5D2 and if so how the heck do I make it work.

If it doesn't then no probs I just don't want to spend another 2 hours trying to find out the answer searching the web.

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

I take it you don't have the book with instructions as it would be under custom functions. I think it would be there for the joy stick on your camera, you didn't say. On my 1D4 it has a number of listings including unenable. MY custom fucntion listings are like the size of a school bus, good luck.

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

I have briefly used a 40D once and you could certain initiate the menu from a single button press. For my 5D2, you can do this from the "joystick" but I have used the customisation to have the "Set" button also do this. I am afraid that each Camera may be slightly different so there is no substitute for looking in the manual. If you have not got a copy, you may be able to download a copy from Canon.

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

Cheers but the manual is less than useless. Apperently the joystick on the 40D and 1D3 does nothing when just pushed in unlike the 5d2 which brings up the settings on the screen.

It's no greeat problem, I just like the way the 5d2 does it.

I've trolled the custom function settings and nowt in there.

I'm now more bothered that Canon can't get back to me on the fact I can't register the body with CPS as it was already registered by someone else, probably the person whose camera it was before refurb.

I've spoken to them and emailed them twice and still got no answer. pfffffffffftttttttttttt

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

I wish I could help more as I have been looking over the custom settings often. C.Fn III Autofocus/drive, this section has Multi-controller settings that have not changed from the III to the IV. Wish I was wonderboy on this camera because by far it is my favorite.

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

I have just looked at the manual on-line and it would appear that the 1DMkii does not have the feature you are looking for, the Quick Control Screen. I first saw this on the 40D then 50D and I was very pleased that the 5D2 has this feature. It is an excellent feature and I find it very difficult to manage without it when I use other Cameras. I am surprised they do not all have this feature.

Re: Canon 1d Mk3 a question ?

This is like throwing food across the table,,,my favorite biscuit is to use the push on the multi con- as a center the focus point and move it around. The Func. button has many uses and flashing the control screen is one. The way I have mine set up on the 50D and others is for a picture with histgram and press the info button for control screen. "I must read moere and duck when the food flies"
