Canon 450 second lense

Hi
Can anyone advise me on a not too expensive second lense for my 450d. The pictures I will be taking most off, will be outdoor, scenery, landscape and holiday.

Thanks in advance

Re: Canon 450 second lense

Your 18-55 will do landscapes very well. You might want to consider two options:

1 If you want a lens that will do most things well from landscapes to telephoto to get you nearer to your subjects, you could get a general purpose lens like the Sigma or Tamron 18-200. The basic models are very reasonably priced, but you can get stabilised ones for a little more. More expensive still, but with greater range are the Sigma 18-250 or the Tamron 18-270. Any of these lenses will give you a focal length for most situations, and you could sell the 18-55. Alternatively, there are lenses in the 18-70/85 range if the longer reach is not so important.

2 Consider the Sigma 70-300 APO in addition to the 18-55. You will still need your 18-55 for close range subjects and most landscape work, but the 70-300 will benefit you if, for instance, you wanted to get close shots where you cannot get very close to your subjects - like zoo paddocks, sport shots or nature/wildlife etc.

Re: Canon 450 second lense

If you are getting an addition lens to give you a little more reach for what you want to take pictures of then I suggest saving up and getting a lens with IS. It is well worth it. If however you don't care for the extra reach nor do you seek another zoom lens then get yourself a wide prime or a longer prime. Personally, I would get an all around lens as Dab has suggested.
Cheers
