Canon 5D II - Battle for Hearts & Minds

Yet another film shot with a 5D MKII, using the 24-70 f/2.8 lens.

Battle for Hearts and Minds (warning some bad language)

Now I must go back through some of the old posts & dig out those comments from some of our prominent members who dismissed the quality of the 5D MKII video

Re: Canon 5D II - Battle for Hearts & Minds

Well it was not a feature that was in my requirements list but I did not mind having it as my Camcorder died some time ago. However, I have only used the feature once in 6 months but it did work very well.

Superb quality. I think my next purchase has got to be the 5D MkII, so I can keep the 1D for sports & have the 5D for portrait, still life & Landscape & maybe even a bit of movie.

Re: Canon 5D II - Battle for Hearts & Minds

If I'm reading the right bit, he says that the 1DMkIV is better than the 5DMkII, not that the 5DII is poor. I would hope that the 1DIV is indeed better!

There were many reports when it came out that the low ISO was poor compared to similar offerings - I found the same as did a few pro's from other areas I'm familiar with.

The 1DMKIV and low ISO isn't really where the development has been aimed - speed and high ISO / dynamic range are the R&D priorities at the moment.

But all just my opinion ...

Re: Canon 5D II - Battle for Hearts & Minds

Here is another example of what is possible video wise using 5dII's

Quote:
"We had an awesome chance to shoot with StillMotion at a wedding last week. Angela and I had 3 5D MKIIs on us taking stills and StillMotion had 4 5DMKIIs on them (and 20 batteries!) taking all the video. It was just awesome to see how powerful this camera truly is."
carol + bryan's // stillmotion special edition sde // NY on Vimeo

And a direct link to the shooters Blogg which also has some stills from the same shoot.

Aha, so you need a steadicam to get smooth shots like theirs. DIY version here :- DIY steadicam camera stabilizer

Re: Canon 5D II - Battle for Hearts & Minds

It's pretty sad when Pro's start saying that a 5d2 isn't as good as a 1d4.

If the 5D2 buyer was paying 4.5K for a body then you'd expect it to be as good as a 1D4.

You can't compare a camera that costs 1.7k to a camera that costs 4.5k.

Thats like saying a BMW Mini should be as good as a BMW M5 it may carry the same badge but it's just not in the same ballpark.
