Canon 70 - 300 USM IS Noisy Image Stabiliser ??
I have just got a new Canon 70-300 USM IS lens. The image stabiliser seems to be quite noisy. My wife can hear it when she is sitting about 2 feet from the lens in a hide. Is this normal for this lens ? or is it noise something to be concerned about ?
The IS function also appears to continue working for about 2 seconds after the shutter has been half depressed. The manual seems to say that this is normal though. |

Well, the one I use is very quiet, unlike my 300mm which is fairly noisy. I had concerns but it would appear that, for the 300mm anyway, it's relatively normal

I used to have this lens and I can only say that the noise just seemed normal - neither loud nor soft,.

The shop I got it from will have some more in stock this week I will take it back and compare it to the new ones.

Same as Mark - the 70-300 is pretty quiet, whereas the 300 f/4L clonks and whirrs a bit. I'd take it back and compare as you suggest.
