Ray, I think you're talking at cross-purposes, Iain wasn't being negative at all. You just got wires crossed
 You'll have a wonderful time with that lens, great choice. I have the same and absolutely adore it. The focal length means you can get in close for true macro but do not have to be so close that things like small creatures, butterflies, etc are scared off. Looking forward to seeing what you come up with. Macro is a whole new learning curve in some respects so don't be disappointed if you find it a bit more difficult than you expected at first, you'll soon learn the unique characteristics of a quality macro lens like that one and you'll be getting great results before you know it Cheers, Rob

Ray - I am sure you will do fine but do remember to take plenty of shots. At least that is what I do.
I have just posted a picture of a hover fly in photo sharing. I am reasonably pleased with this one but I took about 40 pictures over a some of about 15 minutes while they fed on a group of flowers. Although you can get some idea of what the pics are like on the camera LCD screen it is not until you see them on a computer screen you can really sort the good from the bad and then it is too late to go back. It was only when I got home I realised that there were two different species.
