Canon EF and EF-S
Hey,
I was just wondering what the difference between EF and EF-S lenses are? Are all EF and EF-S lenses compatible with my EOS 400D or do I need to be careful which I am looking at? Thanks Paul |

Re: Canon EF and EF-S
Hi Slicker.
All EF and EF-S lenses will fit your 400D. The EF-S are specifically designed for the smaller sensor on the 30/20/400/etc D canon lenses. They will not fit the full size sensors eg 5D or 1D series. Roger

Re: Canon EF and EF-S
Ah now you are asking.
The EF-S lenses tend to be more compact than the EF and generally image quality is as good unless you splash the cash and go for the L series with better build quality and glass. Generally as with all these things you get what you pay for. It depends what you want. My carry around lens is 17-85 EF-S is but my telephoto is 70-300 EF is. on my 30D.My prettier half uses EFS 18-55, EF 50 1.8 and 75-300 EF on her 400D Depends what you want it for. ultra wide 10-22 is only available in ES-S Roger |

Re: Canon EF and EF-S
S lenses are different in the rear lens on the mount. They are moved back to help achive
or releave the crop factor and you get a full frame on your sensor that has a 1.6 factor. The glass being moved back on an s lens will not mount properly on a full frame sensor and could damage the full frame camera. So know your lenses and your camera bodies. |
