Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
Well I reckon some photo's speak more than words. Here are some examples at 10mm from a Sigma, but I think you will see the impact you can get in a shot with a subject placed close to foreground & the resulting perspective you get in a shot

Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
Ray although i don't have the Sigma, i have the Tokina 12-24mm and this is my most used lens. These wide angle lenses are very versatile lenses, for me i take mainly landscapes/seascapes but Dave's examples show just what can be achieved also check out www.contaminationzone.com a site belonging to Pixalo member Nursepayne who i believe used the Sigma 10-22mm for most of the shots on her site.

Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
The quality of the Sigma 10-20 seems generally very good, although Sigma do suffer a little from QC problems, so it depends on whether you get a good one. The Canon 10-22 is more expensive but will probably hold its resale value a little better. I have the Canon and am pleased with the results, although I'm not sure if I'd have bought it in preference to the Sigma (or Tamron, or Tokina) if I hadn't had a cash-back voucher which knocked the price down to about the same as the third-party lenses.
As far as I can see from reviews, the only significant advantage that the Canon 10-22 may have is lower distortion, especially at the extremes of focal length. But as always, you pays your money and takes your choice. ![]()

Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
Nope, you are right Ray. At 10mm the lens has limited use for a lot of landscape shots, unless you have something in foreground to add interest / impact & help lead your eye in the shot. 1st time I used mine I noticed the landscape in front of me just disappeared in to the far distance when I opened it up to 10mm
![]() It can be used for landscape well, but it takes careful planning & composition to make most of it at 10mm end. At 20mm it's more forgiving |

Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
It's sometimes useful for landscapes - to fit everything in....
![]() ... but I use it a lot for interior shots like this one of the house refurbishment - not a very good pic but perhaps gives an idea of how a 10mm lens makes a room look really large! ![]() |

Re: canon Ef-s 10-22 Advice Please
I have owned a Canon 10-22mm for nearly 3 years now and it is certainly my most used lens over that period. It is ideal for landscapes and architecture. I could not imagine a photoshoot in Venice without it. Also great for photographing inside buildings (e.g. churches, British museum etc).
