Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

Taken this afternoon, hand held with 24-105 lens at various ISO settings. Processed from RAW using Aperture with no noise reduction applied.

ISO 1600

ISO 3200

ISO 6400

ISO 12800

Make up your own mind, but to my eyes there is little visible noise at ISO 1600, the noise becomes noticeable at ISO 3200 but could be improved by Noise Ninja, ISO 6400 is still usable but it would be difficult to remove noise without blurring, and 12800 is getting to be a bit too much.

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

Ya gotta be happy with those even if it isn't a 50D , Question,,,, does your camera have memory metering where it will average the shot, or average out a number of metered readings,? Thanks

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

You can auto-bracket exposures but it won't automatically do tone-mapping or HDR by itself. Personally I find that in most cases it's OK to expose for highlights and then push shadows, although that wouldn't work too well at high ISO.

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

I picked up during my reading time,,, that a 1D series camera will do more then one spot meter in different zones then average a shot from those,,,maybe a question for 1D owners but the 5D II is around my nieghborhoood and I think it would be cool if it did. I wasn't refering to bracketing or HDR, just an average for real bright and real dark in the same picture. Sounded real good, but,, I did read about it on the internet.

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

Evaluative metering is sort-of the same thing, and you can set the 5DII to highlight priority which expands the dynamic range. Combined with the highlight recovery and other features you get on most RAW editors nowadays, most bases are covered!

That would be exactly my conclusion too! If we think back just a couple of years to what cameras were capable of then it is amazing how much better they are still getting.

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

Well I would like to see a photo taken with that high Iso. I'm not sure if that is going to get people to buy this camera because of the high iso.

But the photo's above definitely look good. Iso1600 looks really fab for the high iso used

Another sample at ISO 3200 under artificial light - no noise reduction applied...

That does look very good

It's the 1 thing I'm amazed about with the D700 as well. You can go as high as 6400 iso and have very little noise in your photo's. Just fabulous

Re: Canon EOS 5D MkII High ISO Sample Shots

Great photos.
I have purchased the EOS 5D Mark II about one month ago.
That is a awsome camera but I sure do have a lot to learn considering I was used to the 30D.
