Canon G9 Battery Question

I'm just thinking about what to take bird watching in East Anglia in September.

I'll certainly be taking my Canon 5DMkII body and 300f4L lens, plus my spotting scope. I'm minded to take a 17-40 rather than a 24-105 as East Anglia has such wonderful wide open landscapes and the 24-105 has visible barrel distortion at the wide end.

Now I could take a 70-200f4 as a mid-range zoom, but I had this off-the-wall idea: why not take my Canon G9? FF equivalent 35-210mm, saves swapping the zoom and the 300, decent macro for orchids.

Oops, that means taking two battery chargers, as the 5D and G9 take different sizes. Then I wondered, what if I take a handful of ready charged G9 batteries?

Does anyone know how long does a G9 / 400D battery keeps its charge?

Re: Canon G9 Battery Question

No experience with Canon, but when I went on holiday for a week last year, my Nikon D70s almost went the whole week on one charge, and if I'd been a little more prudent, might well have lasted the whole week.

Personally, I'd rather take two chargers than six or eight batteries (or however many you decide is safe).

If by 400D, you mean the same battery as the 350D canon, mine will keep its charge for months without too much degradation...
LI-Ion batteries keep the charge better than Ni-Cad, and having no "Memory" function, can be topped up with no problems from part charged.
Certainly over two weeks they will keep without loosing anything, as I keep a spare at all times, rotating them as they are used, and a two week old charge is as good as a fresh charge....
