Hello. If there is anyone who can help me with this, I would be extremely grateful.
I am planning to buy the Canon XTi and I don't know which lens to get. As much as I'd like to have just one lens, I know its not possible because I want very high image quality. I do know that I want the Canon 100mm Macro because of my love for macro.. But for the other things like trees, landscapes, beach, everything else, what would be the best choice under $450? I was looking at the 28-135 IS lens but also the 50mmf1.8 and I know they're both totally different...I am in need of some direction.. thank you! Maybe I would be ok with the kit lens plus the 100mm macro lens? Last edited by herheart; 30-04-2007 at 20:36. |

Re: Canon Lens - Please Help
Hi and welcome to Pixalo
To your question. If you like Macro then get the 100mm- it'll double up as a very good portrait lens then you won't need a 50mm. You don't mention sport, birds, wildlife etc so I assume you won't need a long zoom. For landscape you are better off with a wide lens but you also need something for walkabout. To cover both those I would suggest the 24-105 rather than the 28-135 - it is definitely a superior lens. the kit lens is not the best but good for starters However you won't get the 100mm and the 24-105 for under $450 so my advice would be to get the 24-105 if you can afford it. It's an excellent L lens which is an investment, it will last you for a long time, and it's a very good walkabout. That's my twopenneth based on my experience of those lenses but wait and get others' opinions as well then bite the bullet

Re: Canon Lens - Please Help
Thank you very much for your help! I'd love to get the 24-105 but I'm just not comfortable spend 1,000+ on a lens just yet.. maybe in the future. I might just go with the 28-135, not sure yet. Thank you again

Re: Canon Lens - Please Help
Ok I think I'm going to go with the Tamron Zoom Super Wide Angle SP AF 17-50mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD Aspherical [IF] along with the Canon 100mm macro. Total $1600. Does this sound like a good deal or should I be getting something else? I know I DEFINITELY want the macro.

Re: Canon Lens - Please Help
Have you ever thought about the Sigma 105mm for macro work?
