Canon S5 IS review added
If you are either not ready to make the step up to a dSLR yet or want a compact to supplement your dSLR work (much easier to carry around!) then the camera I have bought for my wife might be right up your street.
it's the Canon S5 IS which produces excellent quality 8mp pictures with a 12x optical lens and image stabilisation. I have reviewed this in the usual place so might be worth a read before you go out shopping for Christmas ![]() Review of Canon S5 IS Cheers, Rob |

Re: Canon S5 IS review added
Good review, Rob - many thanks.
Apart from the limited wide-angle (without the converter), the only real criticism I've read of the S5 is that the images are slightly soft, but you don't seem to have found this a noticeable problem. It sounds like a good camera if you don't want to lug an SLR around. |
