Canon Speedlite Query

Just a quick question:

I am thinking of buying a Canon Speedlite 430EX from One Stop Digital who are selling it for £152, I was wndering if this is a good price to pay?

I have noticed that the prices have started to come down slightly now that the 430 EXII has been released.

Thanks

Simon.

Re: Canon Speedlite Query

Sounds like a reasonable price - Camerabox.co.uk are selling it for around the same, but I know nothing about that company.

Today only, A J Purdy are selling the 430EX II for £170.

Re: Canon Speedlite Query

Missed it!!

Although, £179 for the 430EXII is quite reasonable, as most places I have seen it for over £200.

Most likely to be a grey import - Check the warranty very very carefully

Re: Canon Speedlite Query

I currently have 5 x 580EX, 3 of which are in for repair and 1 of those is under warranty.

If you take a lot of flash images (as I do) they will go wrong. I'd be rather upset if they had to go back to Hong Kong for replacement or repair.

Hmmm

I've recently lost the plot with setting reduced flash output (1/16th) + faster shutter speeds as the cameras seem to want to go to the smallest aperture and thus very dark shots.

Trouble is the only real chance to test all this out is when I need to take the pics and thus can't afford to lose any.

This was working before but I can't work out if it's a flash glitch or my stupidity

I know on the 40D that if you use "P" mode for shooting, the speedlite is seen as the main source of light & thus you can end up with dark backgrounds often. If in AV mode though, the speedlite is seen as fill in only, so you get a nice balanced shot . Having experienced nightmare of managing fill in flash with changing light conditions , trying to stay under flash sync speed of 1/250, I often now use High speed synch in AV mode

I did have the flash constantly firing with the camera so 5 exposures would all be flash lit. Leaving the camera on 'auto' as it were means you only get 1 or maybe 2 shots in a sequence. I wish I could work what I've 'undone'
